Dr. Joseph R. Damiano, DDS, 75, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord Monday, March 10, 2025. He was preceded by his mother, Alberta Torrell Damiano; brother, Richard P. “Rick” Damiano; grandparents, Ralph and Marguerite Torrell, and Joseph and Catherine Damiano; and a step son, George William “Bill” Harper, II.
Dr. Damiano was a 1967 graduate of Northside High School, later graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University and the Medical College of Virginia. In 1977 he opened his dental practice in North Roanoke County. There he was known for his gentle touch, outgoing personality, and kind demeanor. He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for 15 years.
Among his hobbies were hunting, spending time on the lake, his dogs, and all things automotive.
Surviving is his wife of 38 years, Joyce Harper Damiano; father, Joseph S. Damiano: sons, Joseph R. Damiano, Jr., and Michael J. Damiano; step children, Michael Alan Harper, Stephanie Harper Potts (Robert), Cynthia Harper and partner, Ian Woodward; grandchildren, Dalton R. Damiano, Heather Palmer (Michael), Michael Alan Harper and fiancée, Alma Sierra, Matthew Alden Harper (Micah), James Michael Harper (Lisa Harper-Chang); Meg Harper, (Levon Derr), and Amelia Potts; eight great grandchildren; brother, Mark Damiano (Betty), and sister-in-law, Angela Damiano; numerous nephews and one niece.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 2:00 pm, at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home.
